Accessibility statement
This statement is voluntary: the European rules on the accessibility of public-sector websites do not apply to PRISMA, which is a private publisher. We publish it anyway, because a magazine that writes about accessibility should be the first to practise it.
Last updated: 1 Sept 2026
Conformance status
PRISMA conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the international guidelines for web content accessibility.
Our most recent check, on 1 September 2026, examined thirteen pages of the site — the front page, an article, a section, the archive, search, sign-in, registration, the four information pages and the English edition — and found no violations.
What this covers
This statement covers prisma-magazine.com in both editions, Italian and English. It does not cover third-party sites our articles link to, nor advertising material, which reaches us already made by the advertiser: we check it on delivery — an advert with no alternative text does not go up — but we do not produce it.
How we verify it
Conformance is not a line you cross once: it is a measurement we repeat. Three checks, and they run on every version of the site.
- An automated check (axe) on the main pages, against WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA.
- A colour check that reads the palette at source and computes the contrast ratio of every pair: 4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for rules and borders. It also refuses any text size fixed in pixels — with a fixed size, the "larger text" control would do nothing.
- Manual passes, by keyboard and with a screen reader.
These are our own checks: no external body has certified this site, and we say so because a statement is worth what can be verified. Automated tools catch what a machine can catch; whether a description is useful, and whether a page can actually be used, is known by the person using it. That is why the section below is not a formality.
How the site is built
- Every text size is in relative units with a 0.75rem floor, and the header carries a control that enlarges text up to 125%.
- Each edition declares its own language on the
htmlelement, and the interface is translated — the text-size and theme controls included, whose hover tooltips follow the edition's language too: a screen reader no longer pronounces Italian words with English phonetics. - A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page.
- No fake controls: where a button or a glyph performs no action, it is not there. A control announced as a "button" that does nothing is worse than no button.
- The light and dark themes are two palettes verified separately, and the site follows the reader's system preference until they tell it otherwise.
- A high-legibility typeface, switchable from the header.
- The cookie notice is not a modal dialog: it does not dim the page and does not trap keyboard focus. «Accept» and «Refuse» are two identical buttons side by side: neither is easier to press than the other, and the answer can be changed at any time from the footer.
- Contact is an email address, not a form: a form would have needed a captcha, the single most reported obstacle among screen-reader users.
If you hit an obstacle
Write to privacy@prisma-magazine.com. Tell us what happened: the page, what you were trying to do, and what you were reading it with (browser, screen reader, magnification). You do not need to describe the problem in technical terms: one line is enough.
We answer within five working days, always: even when the answer is that we need more time to fix it, within that deadline you get a reply with a name and a next step. If it does not arrive, write again.
The same address applies if the site stops you from completing something — getting back into your account, for instance: the newsroom answers within the same deadline and takes the step for you.
Who we are, legally
The owner of this site and the party responsible for this statement is the publisher of PRISMA Magazine, whose full details are in the privacy notice. This page is revised whenever a report or a check of ours changes what it says.
