Editorial ethics
Covering the culture of the world while staying small has always looked to us like a problem of scale. It is not one any more.

Aisha is our editorial assistant.
She helps us read the world, check the facts, keep the sources together.
She does not publish. She does not decide. She does not sign.
Then we come in.
We choose, we rewrite, we check, we sign.
Aisha brings us the world. We decide what deserves to go into a short piece.
Why we work this way
A small newsroom can do one of two things: cover little, or get help.
We chose the second. Not because we are lazy.
Because this way we can keep our eyes on what matters: accessibility, museums, exhibitions, the culture that happens far from the centres of editorial power.
Aisha is not a saving.
She is a widening of our reach.
What you read, we chose. What reached our desk, she brought us.
Fact-checking
Aisha carries a deep and innovative fact-checking system.
Every number, every date, every quotation is verified against the primary source before a draft reaches the newsroom.
Then we come in, and check it again.
A figure that does not add up is a figure we do not publish.
The byline
Every piece carries the name of whoever signs it.
Aisha never signs. Ever.
Not because she does not deserve it. Because a byline is where responsibility lives, and responsibility belongs to whoever answers for it. Aisha, thankfully, does not answer. We do.
What we never do
We never publish an article that has not passed through a person's eyes.
We never invent numbers, quotations or sources. If a fact is not there, it is not there.
We never generate images of real people. Photographs are photographs.
We do not cover open court cases, minors, or victims of crime. Those need hands and a heart a machine cannot have.
We do not use Aisha for opinion pieces. Il Punto stays ours.
If something does not add up
This page changes as the way we work changes. The date at the top says when we last updated it.
